A Dance With Dragons 3: The South
The chapters set in the South fulfill an odd, dual function. They’re there firstly to resolve some of the more egregious cliffhangers from Feast, while at the same time setting the stage for next book, The Winds of Winter. Any character development in here feels very much like an extension of Feast, rather than any sort of arc in its own right. Continue reading

A Dance With Dragons 1: The North
I read the book right when it came out, and I’m still not completely sure what I think about it. The page by page writing is very good. There are certainly some quirks to it, like “Much and more” and the sudden prevalence of neeps in everyone’s diets, but on the whole, the prose is as good as ever (unlike this prose here).
